AI Hallucination
An AI hallucination is when a generative AI system states something as fact that is not actually true — as opposed to expressing an opinion, reflecting a genuine (even negative) review, or declining to answer. Hallucinations are typically caused by a model filling a gap in its available information with a plausible-sounding but incorrect detail.
Why it matters for hotels
For a hotel, this might look like an AI assistant confidently stating a wrong check-in time, an amenity that doesn't exist, or an outdated room count. It's usually traceable to thin or missing structured facts on the hotel's own site combined with conflicting third-party listings, which is why a documented, verified fact base is the practical defense against it.
